A short note on Christmas

December 25 was set as the date of Christmas in the 4th century, partly to overlap with existing winter festivals around the solstice. Today it is observed in over 160 countries, as a religious feast in some and a secular family holiday in others. The "twelve days of Christmas" run from December 25 through January 5; some traditions exchange small gifts on each day rather than all at once on the 25th. Eastern Orthodox churches that follow the Julian calendar observe Christmas on January 7.

Your device's local time. Midnight on New Year's Eve in Tokyo is not midnight in London; the page counts down to whichever midnight is yours.

Does the countdown keep running if I switch tabs?
