Study Timer
Create a sequence of study and break intervals, then run them back-to-back.
No segments yet. Add one to get started.
How to use the study timer
Pick a template (say 25 minutes work, 5 minutes break, four rounds) or build your own list with a label and a duration per interval. Drag entries to reorder. Press Start.
Common questions
- Will the chime play if I switch apps or tabs?
- Yes, as long as the browser tab stays open. The chime plays at each segment's end, in the foreground or background.
- Can I save a routine I built?
- Yes. The list of segments saves automatically to this browser, and is there when you come back.
- How long can a single segment be?
- 1 to 240 minutes. Most useful patterns sit between 5 and 90 minutes per block.
- Can I reorder segments after I add them?
- Drag a segment up or down to move it. The new order saves immediately.
Tips
Start with a short cycle, say two work blocks and two breaks. If 25 minutes feels too short, try 50. If 50 feels too long, drop to 15. When a block ends with the task unfinished, keep the loose end going into the first minute of the next block: that opening minute is often the most productive of the session.
About working in intervals
Breaking long work into shorter blocks with planned breaks cuts fatigue and stops you second-guessing every twenty minutes about whether to keep going. 25/5 is the most common ratio; 50/10 and 90/15 are popular too. The right one depends on the work itself: detailed editing tolerates longer blocks than meetings or learning a new skill do.
